Scout Good Service Awards recognize adult members who consistently deliver service over and above what is expected in their role. Unlike Long Service Awards - which are generated automatically by Headquarters based on MyMembership data - Good Service Awards require a nomination. Find out how you can nominate someone you know who consistently goes above and beyond below.
To be eligible, a nominee must:
Be a current adult member with all active roles at 'full' appointment status, including completed mandatory learning.
Hold a valid Criminal Records Check (where required for their roles).
Meet the specific required length of service and prerequisite award criteria for the specific award.
Not have received a Good Service Award within the last five years, nor already hold the award for which they are being nominated.
All nominations are submitted via the scouts.org nomination form on the MyMembership portal.
Before starting, follow these steps to ensure a strong submission:
Consult Leadership: Speak with the nominee's Group Lead Volunteer or Team Leader to check eligibility, confirm the award is justified, and avoid duplicate nominations.
Gather Evidence: Collect specific details about their main role, additional duties, community involvement, and key achievements (including measurable outcomes like growth figures or project management).
Draft First: Because submitted forms cannot be edited on the portal, it is strongly recommended that you draft your text offline using the template attached to this page.
Mind the Deadlines: Nominations are reviewed locally by the City of York District Awards Panel before progressing to County or Headquarters. Submissions should be completed by the beginning of February, May, August, or November to align with quarterly Headquarters deadlines.
Note: Endorsements by local panels do not guarantee final approval, so please keep all nominations strictly confidential until an award is officially confirmed.
The District Adult Volunteer Awards & Recognition Team have prepared a Guidance Document on Good Service Awards (purpouse, criteria, assessment & preparation) which includes an example nomination form to assist when filling in the online nomination form on MyMembership. You can find this document to the right. This Guidance is downloadable should you need to save it. Should you encounter issues viewing the document, clicking the button below will open it in a new tab.
If you need guidance on whether a potential submission meets the required standard, contact John Ives (City of York District Adult Volunteer Awards & Recognition Team Leader) at john.ives@yorkscouts.org.uk
